Picnic - Nathan Adams x Reader

It was just another ordinary weekend in Springdale. It just after noon in the local park as you and Nate were busy walking around, looking for a nice place to sit down for a picnic. You were holding a picnic basket filled with sandwiches and cans of cola while your classmate and friend Nathan (or Nate for short as he prefers it) was carrying the picnic basket. It has been a while since you’ve been alone with Nate since his other friends Eddie & Bear were busy with other activities.

As the two of you continued walking along the footpath, you eyed a perfect green grassed area, underneath a beautiful tree, secluded from all the other people in the park. You suddenly walking, tapping your friend Nate on the shoulder in the process.

“Hey, how about that place over there, underneath that big tree?” you casually suggest to the red-shirted boy, directly pointing to the secluded area.

“Are you sure?” Nate shuffled nervously, seemingly scanning the area with his watch attached on his left arm, “I think I see a Yo-Kai over there!”

“Another one?” you smirk, “Darn, you sure are the Pokémon master around here!”

“I can tell you’re being sarcastic,” Nate replied with a blank face, before smiling again, “But at least you don’t try to deny they’re not real.”

“I have my doubts sometimes,” you admit, before you start to walk off the footpath to reach that nice open spot.

“Wait!” Nate protested, “I haven’t finished scanning yet!”

“Well scan faster, we could lose our spot!”

“I’m trying!” Nate pleaded, as he started to follow you slowly, keeping his left arm open for his watch to scan. Within a few seconds, the light on his watch faded, indicating to him that his surroundings were clear.

The walk wasn’t long since it was only a hundred steps away from the main footpath. Despite that, once the two of you arrived at the grassy area, you couldn’t help but see how alone and secluded the two of you were in comparison to the other park-goers. However, it was oddly weird to you to embrace the beauty of the emptiness of the park.

“So,” you start, as you start to grab the sandwiches your mum made for your trip to the park, “How’s Whisper by the way?”

“He’s good as usual,” Nate replied, “Even though he always insists on following me.”

“He’s here right now,” you ask with curiosity, knowing that Nate could only see the Yo-kai.

Nate nodded in response, shifting his eyes to the left as if pointing to his location.

“Nate, you want a sandwich?” you offer, grabbing one of the sandwiches from the basket.

“Sure, it’s the main reason why we’re here,” Nate laughed as he took the sandwich from your hand and took a large bite from it. You could tell Nate was contented with the sandwich based on his happy expression on his face.

“Did you make this?” Nate asked, while he was still eating his sandwich, “It’s pretty good.”

“Not really,” you admitted, “My mum made them.”

Nate swallowed the last of his sandwich with a satisfied grin, “Your mum needs to make more of this stuff!”

“She only makes it for special occasions,” you say as you start to grab the two cola cans from the basket, “How about a drink?”

“Well, duh,” Nate grinned, grabbing one of the cans from your hands. He popped it open and drunk a generous amount of it, before a refreshing ‘ah’ sound left his mouth, “I guess I’m just full now!”

“I’ve got something to admit,” Nate started, as a slight shade of red appeared on his face. He was tightly clutching on to the almost-empty can while he was taking a deep breath, “I always sorta kinda had a crush on you.”

Your eyes perked up in disbelief and amazement when you heard those words uttered. Your cheeks start to blush a deep red, making it incredibly obvious to Nate what exactly you were feeling, “Really?”

Before you could do anything else, Nate quickly pulled you in close and kissed you directly on the lips. After a few heavenly moments, the two of your lips part as you & Nate blush.

“Yes, really,” Nate finally replied back before casually resuming in finishing his cola can.
